The Original Form Of

Hapkido

What is The Original Form of Hapkido?

The original form of Hapkido taught by Choi Yong Sul.

Choi Yong Sul felt the importance to point out that the self-defense techniques are just a bonus which accompany the increasing of your vitality over time.  The Intention of practice is for your wellbeing, by protecting your health, increasing your confidence through disciplined training method.

The original form of Hapkido contains three fundamental parts, which are:

  • MA EUM (heart, feeling, spirit) , the most important part of the process.
  • Second comes the MOM (body),  conditioning and strength.
  • Finally, the KI SUL (skill, art, technique), the training method, e.g.: form of the moves, the position of hands and feet. This is the least important. However, it is an effective path to body, heart and spirit.  During the training session, it is imperative for people not to get injured, and all practice partners interact and treat each other with love.

Besides the disciplined training method,  Choi also accentuated a 70% living philosophy.  This is a guidance of life, e.g.: you eat till you are 70% full, doing task with 70% of your energy,  so that you do not exhaust your body and mind quickly, which allows you  to carry on the task for much longer;  same applies to this training method, put 70% of your effort in, to gradually improve yourself.
